Chitharal

Chitharal Jain Monuments are located near Marthandam, in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Chitharal is historically known as Thirucharanthupalli – the abode of Jain monks belonging to the Digambara sect. The Jain influence in this region was due to the Jain King Mahendra Verman-1 (610-640 AD). There is a hillock with a cave containing rock-cut sculptures of Thirthankaras and attendant deities. The view from the hillock is absolutely breathtaking. There is even a shallow water body on top of the hill.

Marthandam is well connected to Thiruvananthapuram by train and bus services. Once you reach Marthandam, directions to reach Chitharal can be easily obtained from the local people.
